Education Programs

The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia’s (HSNEGA) mission is to create a community recognized for responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals through offering basic pet wellness and spay/neuter services, public education, and placement of companion animals. To foster our mission, HSNEGA provides shelter tours and programs, classroom programs, reading programs, Scout Badge Programs and internships. Our programs are available to ages 6+ and are free with donations from our WISH LIST or with a nominal donation of $25. Programs can be tailored to accommodate the learning objectives you may have for your group. All programs, aside from internship opportunities, are offered on a first-come, first-served basis; availability is limited. We highly recommend requesting your program at least 2 weeks in advance.

HSNEGA Tours & Programs

Do you have a class or club or other organization that is interested in learning more about HSNEGA? Bring your group to us! Visits generally include a tour, an explanation of who and what HSNEGA is and does, a brief education program, a possible service component, interaction time with a canine rescue(s, and a goodie bag for each student. Groups should consist of no less than 5 and no more than 18 participants per visit, NOT including chaperones. There should be 1 adult for every 6 children ages 6-13.

Reading Programs

“Reading & Rescues” is a specific on-site education program HSNEGA offers that benefits both readers and rescues by providing socialization for our rescues and reading practice for the reader in front of a non-judgmental audience. Whether your children are too young to volunteer or you’re looking for a new way to entice your kids to read, Reading & Rescues is a great solution. Although designed to help children, Reading & Rescues can be for all ages! Readers can borrow a book from our small library or bring one of their own to read to the animals. Reading & Rescues can be done by a single volunteer or a group of up to 12 participants. We do ask you to provide adult supervision for children ages 6-13.

Classroom Programs

Can’t bring your students to us? We can bring HSNEGA to you! Classroom programs generally include an explanation of who and what HSNEGA is and does, an education program, interaction time with a canine rescue(s) and a goodie bag and worksheet packet for each student (max 30). We do not set a maximum number of participants for off-site visits. We just ask that there be a minimum of 5 participants at least 6 years of age and 1 adult for every 6 children ages 6-13. Take advantage of this great resource and schedule your classroom program today!

Now is your chance to get some work experience! We offer a few different internships and/or work-based learning opportunities to students, such as our Marketing & Development Internship and Veterinary Externship. Additionally, most administrative volunteer positions found on our website can be made into internships. Give with Confidence

At HSNEGA, we want to remember the amazing rescues that come to stay with us. All of the animals pictured on this site have been with us at some point. Some have already found their forever homes, but some may still be here at HSNEGA!
